Island of TAWARA
National Protected site
Giant rock on the ocean called as beautiful island.
It is made of basalt and located in sea of Japan.
Site information
Tawarajima island found by the Yuya island south west of Mukatsuku Peninsula is size of 900m, and Hight as 30m composed with basalt. Sunset view of Tawarajima island is one of the highlight of this sight.
Selected as National Protected site in 1927.
Where the TAWARA comes from
On the surface of island, there are layered cracks that has shape similar to pillar forms shape looks like straw bag.
Columnar Joint
This is really valuable natural phenomenon creation.
Lithothamnium
It is only found few places in Japan.
Beautiful terraced rice field
On the way to Tawarajima Island, you may find great view.
Resting area for AMA the women diver
If summer time with luck, you may see AMA dives and fishes.
Great fishing spot
Especially great view of Sea of Japan is extra credit.

40min from JR Sanin Main Line「Hitomaru Station」
Heading to Tawarajima islad requires to drive on narrow mountain path, as well as few minutes walk unpaved road.
When the rocks are wet, it is really slippy so need to be cafull walking around Tawarajima island.
